Admission of Patients:
- Patients who have undergone heart surgery, along with the anesthesia team, enter the ICU-OH from the operating room, and relevant care begins.
- Patients hospitalized in the hospital and those after other surgeries who require ICU, subject to non-contamination, are admitted after coordination with the ICU physician, their visit, and coordination with the shift supervisor in this department.
The main activity of the department is based on adult patients requiring major heart surgery.
Patients undergoing surgery such as coronary artery bypass grafting, various heart valve surgeries, and repair of all congenital heart defects in children are placed under postoperative care in this department by skilled surgeons.
Also, patients who, after other surgeries or hospitalization in the hospital, develop cardiovascular and respiratory problems requiring ICU care are admitted to this department, provided they are non-infectious.
Each bed is equipped with complete monitoring, central oxygen, central suction, and in addition to the 5 units, includes a nursing station, a clean workroom, a dirty workroom, a doctor’s room, a staff locker, and a toilet (for staff and patients).
Patient Education:
Education to the patient begins after the patient regains consciousness, and necessary education is provided during hospitalization. A educational booklet is given to patients when transferring to the PCCU department for further reading.
Postoperative Patient Care:
- Patients, on average, wake up about 6-8 hours after transfer from the operating room.
- Patients in this department can get out of bed with the help of a nurse and a department assistant one day after surgery and can go to the restroom.
- After the patient’s condition improves and about 4-5 days after the operation, the patient is transferred to the PCCU department for further treatment.
- Patients after heart surgery stay in the ICU OH department for about 5 days. During this time, visits are possible through the department’s glass and during the visiting hours. However, close and in-person visits with the patient are not allowed to prevent any infection transfer to patients.
- For the entire heart surgery process, the patient will be hospitalized in the hospital for about one week.
- The patient’s diet on the day after the operation includes fluids (such as fruit juice and soup), and companions can bring fluids for their patients.
- On average, about 6-8 hours after the transfer from the operating room, patients gradually regain consciousness.
